Japanese Traditional Sweets Meet Dragon Quest: Trying Slime Uiro
A friend from Nagoya recently gave me a very unique Japanese souvenir called Slime Uiro (スライムういろう).
Uiro(ういろう) is a traditional Japanese confection made mainly from rice flour. It has a soft and chewy texture and is especially famous as a specialty sweet from Nagoya, one of Japan’s largest cities.
For many Japanese people, uiro is a nostalgic traditional snack, but this version adds a playful modern twist inspired by the famous Dragon Quest video game series.
Appearance
The packaging is designed in the shape of a Slime character, complete with its cute onion-like silhouette. The design is adorable and immediately catches your attention.
Inside the package were three different Slimes:
Blue Slime
Orange Slime Bes
Green Lime Slime
Each wrapper contained a colorful piece of uiro.

The packaging alone already makes this sweet feel special, especially for fans of Japanese games and pop culture.
Taste Test
When I tried them, I discovered something surprising: each color had a completely different flavor.
・Blue Slime: classic traditional uiro flavor
・Orange Slime Bes: mandarin orange flavor
・Green Lime Slime: kiwi fruit flavor
Three flavors of Slime Uiro
As a Japanese person, I already have a strong image of how traditional uiro should taste. Because of that, the orange and kiwi versions almost felt like entirely different sweets to me.
It was a very interesting experience.
The chewy texture remained familiar, but the fruity flavors added a refreshing and modern taste that made the sweets fun and unique.
Why It Makes a Great Japanese Souvenir
Slime Uiro combines two iconic parts of Japanese culture: traditional wagashi sweets and the beloved Dragon Quest game series.
The cute appearance, colorful flavors, and connection to Japanese gaming culture make it an excellent souvenir for international visitors.
I especially recommend it for people who love Dragon Quest, Japanese snacks, or unique regional foods from Japan.
Thank you for the delicious treat!
